Birth Defects Research and Prevention: The Massachusetts Center for Birth Defects Research and Prevention was established in 1996 and is a joint venture of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), Boston University’s Slone Epidemiology Center (SEC), and Brigham and Women’s Hospital Active Malformations Surveillance Program (BWH). The Center conducts birth defects surveillance. The Center also detects the prevalence of birth defects and tries to investigate potential causes and plan appropriate interventions. The Center ensures services and appropriate care for children with special health needs.
Cancer Prevention and Control: This program focuses on an integrated, coordinated, and collaborative approach to cancer prevention and control. The program also tries to eliminate disparities in health outcomes.

Health Survey Program: This Health Survey program operates the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) in Massachusetts. The health survey program conducts annual telephonic surveys to collect data on emerging public health issues, health conditions, risk factors and behaviors. The data collected, helps to study the racial discrepancies in health and health care, trends in chronic diseases, and health risk factors.
