HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

Imagine being cast away on a deserted island with no one to talk to. The very thought of it sounds crazy, as we humans are programmed to co-exist with one another. We are surrounded by people in every walk of life and have a unique relationship with every person we come across.
From parents to siblings, spouses to friends and many others, each relationship seems to have an impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing. So how does one decide if a relationship is healthy or not?

A healthy relationship is one wherein you build each other up. There is freedom of expression and respect for each other’s personal space. Disagreements do crop up in every relationship, but the key to working them out, is to realize that, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Humility can work wonders in keeping a relationship healthy. Sometimes it’s best to put yourself in the other person’s shoes to understand their point of view. An open and clear communication can help clear out the grey areas.

However, not all relationships may seem too positive. There may be instances where dealing with a negative relationship for too long can put you down. It may hamper your mental and physical state of mind. It is important in such cases to identify these signs earlier on. This will help you to take the necessary steps towards finding the right solutions.

It’s always best to build a good support system for yourself. Your family is the best way to start with this exercise. Every relationship needs patience and time to grow. But eventually you will see the results that this support system brings to you.
